Disruptive Consciousness · Advisory

Connecting European
capabilities for
climate transformation.

A European connective infrastructure for the Art · Science · Technology · Society tetrad.

Built in Europe. Held in Europe.

Initiated and coordinated by GERICS — Climate Service Center Germany, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon

First conversation · New European Bauhaus, Joint Research Centre · 11 September 2026

The film

83 seconds, with sound.

01 · The challenge

Europe has the knowledge, the creativity and the technology to face its climate challenges.

What is missing is the connection between them.

Across disciplines. Across institutions. Across communities. Across borders.

01

02 · The gap

A meeting is not yet a project.
A network is not yet an ecosystem.

Existing networks help people meet — very few of those meetings become projects. Connections stay personal: when one person leaves, the access often leaves with them.

Fragmentation increases the time, the effort and the uncertainty required to create meaningful cross-disciplinary work.

Portraits of Climate, University of Hamburg · European Performing Science Night — 28 artists and scientists.

It works when someone brings the right people together and holds the process. Today, that someone is a coincidence.

03 · The mechanism

The platform is not the destination.
It is the mechanism.

Challenge Discover Match Collaborate Projects

It starts from a real-world challenge and assembles the capabilities needed to address it — scientific, creative, technological and societal. Bring the right perspectives together before solutions are defined.

ART

New ways of seeing, imagining and communicating.

SCIENCE

Knowledge, evidence and understanding.

TECHNOLOGY

Practical solutions and scalable implementation.

SOCIETY

Lived realities, needs, legitimacy and adoption.

Built in Europe. Held in Europe.

03

04 · The first proof

Start small.
Demonstrate the mechanism.

100–150selected people
30–50organisations
3core functions: discover · match · collaborate

Scientists, artists, designers, technology actors — and the cities and regions that carry the concrete challenges.

LAUNCH = FIRST PROOF

An interactive media installation

It makes climate challenges tangible, connects them to European actors, and lets visitors become part of the network on the spot. The platform does not explain what it enables — it shows it.

First 90 days: a curated community, first challenges, first documented collaborations — and what we learn from them.

04

05 · How it is built

Three roles, one infrastructure.

GERICS

Initiator, coordinating organisation and scientific anchor. Access to climate-relevant networks and institutional credibility.

Disruptive Consciousness

Strategic framing, stakeholder process, co-design and moderation — and the design and operation of the connective layer.

The European community

The actors themselves. They make the system valuable — the infrastructure only makes them findable to each other.

The platform replaces no existing network, institution or programme. It connects them across their established boundaries.

Built in Europe. Held in Europe.

Roles as proposed for discussion.

05

06 · A role for the New European Bauhaus

The NEB has built a European community around sustainability, inclusion and quality of experience.

The question is not whether you join. It is whether this infrastructure could help mobilise that community — and the wider European ecosystem — around concrete transformation challenges.
